Recently, confirmed sources revealed that Asin was the main contender for the lead heroine opposite Chiyaan Vikram for a movie that is to be directed by Shankar. The film is being produced by Aascar Films.
HMK who creates a stir on and off with their 'moral policing gimmicks' in the state points out Asin's anti-Tamil stand taken against the Tamil film industry's diktat when she visited Sri Lanka a few years back and that Shankar should not rope her in for a Tamil film.
Says Kannan, the state organising secretary of HMK, “Shankar has been making films with social relevance like creating awareness about black money in Sivaji, free education for poor in Gentleman etc.
If what we hear is true, then under the given situation in Sri Lanka and the recent UN reports on Sri Lanka clearly declaring its actions as war crimes and crimes against humanity and recognised as genocide, we strongly object Shankar's decision to cast Asin in his film”.
Asin was the first Indian celebrity who visited the war afflicted areas of Jaffna in Sri Lanka in the last 32 years.
Asin along with the First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa visited Vavuniya Hospitals while she was shooting for her Bollywood film Ready with Salman Khan, recollects Kannan.
On may recall that HMK threatened to stop Asin's Kaavalan shooting earlier, but the film was completed without any problems and also had a decent run in the State.
“We opposed her pairing opposite Vijay in Kaavalan itself but had to give in as most of the shooting had already completed.”
