Asin's pound of flesh after a fash facelift
Asin's gone from Tollywood to Hollywood, if not in the movies at least in the fashion department. The popular actor has switched style and has had an image makeover of sorts, thanks to her Bollywood ambitions.
The south Indian star has come a long way from her Ghajini debut back in 2008.
She has not only shed oodles of weight and baby fat from when she first appeared on the Bollywood scene but has also ditched the hideous satin gowns and ill- fitted jeans for a more glamourous look.
At numerous recent Housefull 2 promotional events the actor has brought her A-game, when it comes to the style department. With figure- flattering dresses in neutral colours to sexy black numbers the actor is experimenting and how.
Even at the Genelia- Riteish wedding the actor looked stunning in a colourful Tawdey lehenga . Most recently at Housefull 2's premiere in Singapore, she was spotted wearing a bodyhugging Paule Ka black gown that showed off her slender waist and toned figure. Who would have guessed that the young actor with the girlnext- door charm could give the glamourous and sexy Jacqueline Fernandez a run for her money on the red carpet? Asin looked every bit the fashionista in her black backless number and stole the thunder from her co-stars.
Even the young Shazahn Padamsee dressed in a bright orange gown paled in front of the star. Her sexy hair up- do and smoky eyes were bang on trend. The chic look can be credited to fashion stylist Tanya Ghavri.
However, despite the fact that she looked fabulous, Asin did end up resembling Sonam Kapoor a tad too much. The fact that Ghavri styles for both Sonam and Asin might have something to do with the too-close-for-comfort semblance.
However, for now no one's complaining.
From Aamir to Salman and now Akshay, Asin has had praises from all. Since in Sajid Khan's Housefull 2 it is Asin on whom Akshay casts his eye, one does assume that it must have been fun for him to have an actress like her on his side.
"An actress like 'her'? You make it sound like she is a Channel handbag on my side", winks Akshay, "Well, you could be right. She is definitely one of the kind and very classy. She is also extremely professional about her presence, wardrobe, rehearsals and basically overall aura on set. Also, I must say that she was very sporting. It is not easy being on set with a load of actors trying to tease the ladies every five minutes. However Asin did it with grace and good bit of cheekiness in return. She is an actress that every hero would love to work with."
After Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Sonakshi Sinha, do we see a new pairing in the making in the form of Akshay-Asin?
Asin says “NO” to Shahid Kapoor for Hindi "Vettai"
According to industry sources, south actor Asin was one of the earliest choices for the Hindi version, which will be helmed by director Lingusamy.
But she allegedly did not take kindly to this. It is rumoured that Asin was fuming and sources close to her have supposedly said that at a time when she is acting with the likes of Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, there is no need for her to do a film with Shahid.
She was also apparently not keen on playing sister to another actor (the Tamil film had Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul playing sisters).
As for Asin's latest release, critics allege that her role was as short as her choli in the film.
Considering that she has acted in south films in which she had equal footage as the hero and was numero uno at one time, her choice of recent Hindi films has come under fire.
Says a Kollywood industry source, "It's sad that she's been reduced to doing such roles with smaller actors like Jacqueline Fernandez and Zarine Khan. Considering she gave up her successful career in the south to focus on Bollywood, it's not like there's a queue of producers waiting to sign her on. Wish she'd make better choices!"
Despite several attempts, at the time of going to press, Asin remained unavailable for comment.
