BIOGRAPHY: Asin was born in Cochin, Kerala, India in the Malayalam-speaking Thottumkal family which consists of her businessman dad, Joseph, and mom, Dr. Seline, who practices in Ernakulam. She attended Naval Public School in Cochin, and after obtaining her Matriculation, was enrolled in St. Theresa's Higher Secondary School. After successfully obtaining her Higher Secondary School Certificate, she enrolled in St. Theresa's College to continue studying in the Arts Faculty. After obtaining a Degree in B.A. English Literature, she assisted her dad in his business (which includes software, export of furniture and antiques) and also took up modeling on the side. Her modeling assignments included Colgate Toothpaste, and Fairever Cream.
This exposure got her noticed and she made her debut on the tinsel screen through director Sathyan Anthikad's "Narendaran Makan" with Malayalyee actor Kunjachacko Boban.

Asin is a dazzling Tamil actress whose amazing acting talents have seen number of films going blockbusters. Asin made her debut in Tamil films with 'M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi' in 2004 which was a huge hit. Her laudable performance in her debut movie landed her several film roles in Kollywood.

Asin's thrilling performance in 'Ghajini' won her the Filmfare award. As 'Ghajini' went on to become the biggest blockbuster of the year, Asin became an overnight star. After 'Ghajini' there was no stopping for this cute lady. She went on to appear in a number of super hit Tamil films such as 'Sivakasi', 'Varalaru', 'Aalwar', 'Pokkiri', 'Vel', and 'Dasavathaaram'.

Asin teamed up with the likes of Kamal Haasan, Surya Sivakumar, Vijay, Vikram, and Ajith; and her on-screen chemistry with that of her heroes is just magical, which is, another reason for her films becoming big hits. On her way to the top in Tamil films, the diva of beauty Asin won the hearts of millions of fans with her awesome acting talents.She has had a taste of success at a very young age in Indian regional movies, it remains to be seen if her success will continue in Bollywood also..

AWARDS: Asin has bagged a number of awards for her performance in various films in the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi industries, including the Kalaimamani award by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2009. She also won the Giant award along with Shahid Kapoor in the same year. She has won various Filmfare awards and other prominent awards for her acting skills in all three major industries which she has been part of in her career. The three Filmfare awards, she has won so far includes, Filmfare Best Telugu Actress Award for Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, Filmfare Best Tamil Actress Award for Ghajini and Best Debut(Female) Award for her Hindi debut in Ghajini. She has also won Stardust Award for Superstar of Tomorrow - Female, IIFA Star Debut Award and Star Screen Award for Best Promising Newcomer-Female and was also nominated for Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance in Ghajini. Apart from her Filmfare awards, she has also won Santosham Best Actress Award for her performance in Shivamani 9848022338 alongside Nagarjuna and ITFA Best Actress Award for her portrayal of a Brahmin girl opposite Kamal Haasan in Dasavathaaram.
